One hour into my afternoon game drive I suddenly started to sense that change was in the air. Wind begun to rock the grass, ghostly shapes came crowding up in the skies and all wildlife started to run for cover while some real bad mama juju started to brew over our heads. Little did I know at that point that the rumbling sound of thunder behind us was announcing one of the wildest afternoons I ever experienced in Africa. And then it hit us, torrential rains, hectic winds, flashes everywhere. But we kept pushing, deeper into the storm, finding all sorts of angles in a landscape that felt like another planet.

For a brief moment it felt as if the entire world was ours, one giant playground. And then, after 2 hours it suddenly stopped. For 1 minute the entire bush went to pure silence. Animals started to emerge from the thickets and on the horizon the warm glow of sunshine emerged. As if the sky was crying and laughing at the same time. And I reminded myself once again to always run into the rain, rather than away from it.

What people say about my prints

★★★★★

We have been following Pie’s work for more than 5 years now. Therefore, having one of his Umoja prints decorating our home, is not only an incredible honour, but also a testament to our support for his mission as an artist and conservationist. His work is now a beautiful daily reminder of our own memories made in Africa on various trips to Kenya as well as Zambia.

★★★★★

It’s been such a rewarding process to pick & choose the artworks as well as the materials for our two framed Umoja prints. Pie carefully guided us through the entire process and even invited us in his studio in Amsterdam to see some of the samples in person. His approach to making art as well as his commitment to protecting nature, is tangible in every step of the way.
