Leadership in the animal kingdom is not always defined by force and aggression, or by masculinity or dominance. In elephant societies, it’s the most experienced and knowledgeable females that lead the herd and therefore determine the safety of every single individual.

Consequently, matriarchs use their wisdom to guide the rest of the group to water, food and shelter. They are usually the oldest and largest female elephants in the herd. Without these strong, determined female leaders, elephant societies would crumble. This image is therefore a tribute to all strong females out there, young and old, may their energy forever bring wisdom, calmness and stability.
