Welcome to Nhamabue Peninsula - a stretch of land in southern Mozambique - where ocean and mangrove embrace, and the land transforms with every shifting tide. Seated on the secluded shores of a warm turquoise lagoon and emerging perfectly integrated with the land, we find Sussurro - meaning ‘whisper’ in Portuguese - a locally crafted hotel residence built by African designers, artisans, and builders.
In April 2024, I was fortunate to visit this unique corner of the world and together with its founders Sarah & Adam, and their beautiful team, I created this ‘floating forests’ collection, a series of 10 artworks, paying tribute to the Nhamabue people and their precious land.
This collection of 10 photographs will only be for sale for a limited window of 2 weeks, ending on May 15. After that they will never sell again.
You can make a difference! For every purchased print, I am donating 15% of the proceeds to benefit the Nhambuean community and their ecological wellbeing. Click here to read more.

Pie Aerts is a photographer based in Amsterdam. His work examines and questions the intricate and often melancholic relationship between people and place in an attempt to explore why we seem increasingly disconnected from each other, ourselves, and our natural environment. By a research-led exploration of stereotypes, he offers nuanced and personal perspectives on culture, tradition and human relationships. In doing so, he chooses hope over despair, and coexistence over conflict.
Pie firmly believes that art has the power to console, heal, and restore our lost connections. Putting this belief into practice, he founded Prints for Wildlife, a fundraising platform that unites over 275 photographers from around the world to sell art in support of conservation.
Since its inception in 2020, the platform has generated $2.1 million, all of which has been donated to the African Parks Network to support African communities and wildlife.

15% of all profits will go to charity
With this purchase, you are directly supporting the well-being of the Nhamabue people, as 15% of the proceeds will contribute to the Nhambuean community and their ecological well-being.
The funds will be used to support African Parks Network, a non-profit dedicated to managing and restoring national parks across Africa. They are the most successful protectors of wildlife in the Bazaruto Archipelago, where this ‘floating forests’ print collection was created. They do this by prioritising the wellbeing of the local people that live alongside this fragile natural ecosystem.
Nhamabue is based within a buffer zone of the Bazaruto Archipelago at the interface between the river, estuaries and sea, on the inside of a lagoon. It is flanked by the ocean on one end and the warm lagoon water on the other. The area is home to incredibly dense and diverse mangrove forests that veer into the river estuaries. These unique coastal environments are key migratory routes for species as endangered dugongs (manatees). The lagoon provides important protective nesting grounds for them.
In 2017, African Parks took over the management of Bazaruto Archipelago National Park (BANP) through a 25-year agreement with the Mozambican government. Their goal is to protect the park’s rich marine and terrestrial biodiversity while supporting local communities. They are currently the most successful protector of wildlife in this coastal region of Africa.
By purchasing a print you are directly ensuring that African Parks Network keeps investing in a harmonious and precious symbiosis between people and land.
